Pope Francis on Monday warned against
becoming accustomed to war, which he described as "extremely
serious horrors" against god and man.
"We must not become accustomed to war, to any war," the pope
said on X (formerly Twitter).
"We must not allow our hearts and minds to be anaesthetized at
the repetition of these extremely serious horrors against God
and humankind," he continued.
During Sunday's Angelus prayer and blessing the pope said war is
always a defeat and it must stop, in reference to the
Israel-Hamas conflict and all other wars.
Francis said "war, any war there is in the world, I think of the
martyred Ukraine, is a defeat, war is always a defeat, its is a
destruction of human fraternity".
"I am very worried, grieved, I pray and I am close to all those
who suffer, to the hostages, to the wounded, to the victims and
their families, I think of the grave humanitarian situation in
Gaza and I am pained that also the Anglican hospital and the
Greek Orthodox parish were hit in the last few days," he
continued, renewing an appeal "to free the hostage and allow
humanitarian aid into Gaza".
