(ANSA) - Milan, September 29 - Chile's National Day at
Milan's Expo world fair opened on Tuesday with a video message
from the country's president Michelle Bachelet.
"Our pavilion represents our love for our country, for its
people and for the wealth of its landscapes," said Bachelet.
"Our participation in Expo is the fruit of a country-wide
project that has made us one of the pavilions that are most
appreciated by visitors," she said.
A flag-raising ceremony was attended by a Chilean
delegation including the vice president of the Lower House,
Denise Pascal Allende.
The General Commissioner of Expo Bruno Pasquino also
attended, highlighting Chile's efforts to tackle marginalisation
of women in society.
Chile's director-general of international economic
relations, Andres Rebolledo, said that 800,000 people had
visited the country's pavilion.
After the ceremony, 250 trainee Chilean police officers
marched along the Expo's main avenue.
The Chilean National Day at Expo will end on Tuesday
evening with a concert by folk band Inti-Illimani Historico on
the stage of the Open Air Theatre.
