Pope Francis on
Wednesday called for prayers and help for migrants rescued off
the coast of Lampedusa this week, and added that he was
"concerned" by reports of missing people from a third boat. "I
want to assure you of my prayers for the victims and again to
encourage solidarity, so that no one lacks the necessary aid,"
the pope said. Only nine people were rescued from two vessels
hit by stormy seats and more than 200 died, most from the cold.
Searches continue for a reported third vessel.
