(ANSA) - Rome, June 25 - American golfer Bubba Watson
clinched his third win this season at the Travelers
Championship, nearing his dream of qualifying for the Ryder Cup
in Paris on September 28-30.
In Cromwell on the PGA Tour, Watson closed at 263 (70 63 67
63, -17).
He finished three strokes ahead of US golfers Stewart Cink,
Beau Hossler and Jon Holmes (2nd at -14), as well as British
golfer Paul Casey, after Casey squandered a four-stroke lead in
the third round.
"I'm really happy about this win, and now I'm hoping for a
call from Jim Furyk," said the 39-year-old native of Bagdad,
Florida, referring to the US captain.
"I've never won the Ryder and I think the time has come to
break that taboo. Then I would like to focus on the 2020
Olympics so I can have that unique experience first hand," he
said.
Finishing in 12th place (-11) were Rory McIlroy and Jason
Day, while Brooks Koepka landed at 19th (-9).
Jordan Spieth suffered another disappointment, coming in 42nd
(-4).
Justin Thomas lost the chance to retake his world leadership,
landing in 56th place (-2).
