(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 10 - Over the past two days "29
Palestinian children have been wounded" in East Jerusalem,
including in the Old City and in the district of Sheikh Jarrah,
UNICEF said. "Eight Palestinian minors have in the meantime been
arrested", the organization denounced, adding that a
one-year-old child is among the injured. Some children who were
taken to hospital for treatment had head and spinal injuries,
UNICEF noted.
The organization said it has received reports according to
which ambulances were prevented from reaching the scene and
evacuate the injured and that a clinic there was targeted and
searched. The UN organization urged Israeli authorities to
abstain from using violence against children and to release the
detained minors. It stressed that the detention of minors is a
last-resort solution and should be used for the minimum amount
of time possible. It also launched an appeal to "all sides
involved" to prevent "any further escalation" and "protect all
civilians, especially children".(ANSAmed).
