There was no "political design"
behind Wednesday's apparent assassination attempt on Slovakian
Prime Minister Roberto Fico, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani
said Friday.
"The man who shot the Slovakian premier was not a boy, he may
have thought he had suffered political injustice in his country,
we don't know what the real motive was, but there is no
political design that led to the attack," said Tajani, who is
also deputy premier, on the sidelines of the 'B7' Group of Seven
business summit in Rome.
Leftist militant, former security guard and amateur poet Juraj
Cintula, 71, said Friday he had meant to wound Fico but not kill
him after firing four shots into his abdomen.
Fico, 59, is in serious but stable condition after surgery after
the apparent attempt on hie life after a cabinet meeting in a
central Slovakian town.
Cintula risks 25 to life in jail for attempted murder.
