Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said
Thursday that the movement of arms and mercenaries into Libya
must stop and the EU's new Irini operation could help a lot on
this front.
Addressing a joint session of the House and Senate foreign
affairs committees, Di Maio also said the coronavirus had acted
as a "brake" on the Libyan political process, which must be
given "new impetus".
He said there was the risk of an "ever more violent clash"
between the country's warring factions.
