The European Court removed
Hamas from the EU blacklist of terrorist organisations Wednesday
"for procedural reasons" but retained the ban temporarily to
guarantee the freezing of the hardline Palestinian movement's
assets.
The Luxembourg-based tribunal said the decision doesn't
amount to a decision on the nature of Hamas.
The court decision "is a legal sentence, not a political
decision," said Maja Kocijancic, a spokeswoman for the EU High
Representative on Foreign Affairs, and the European Council
could decide to appeal the sentence.
Meanwhile, the "restrictive measures remain in force" and
"this means that the EU continues to consider Hamas a terrorist
organisation," she added.
