A economy that kills, excludes and
pollutes is a perversion, Pope Francis said in his message to
the online meeting 'The Economy of Francesco' underway from
Assisi.
"The economy that kills, that excludes, that pollutes, that
produces war, is not an economy: others call it an economy, but
it is only a void, an absence, it is a sickness, a perversion of
the economy itself and of its vocation," said Francis.
"The weapons made and sold for wars, the profits made at the
expense of the most vulnerable and defenceless people, such as
those who leave their land in search of a better future, the
exploitation of resources and peoples that steals land and
(ruins) health: all this is not economics, it is not a good
centre of reality to be maintained," continued the pope.
"It is only arrogance, violence, it is only a predatory set-up
from which humanity must be freed," he concluded.
