Pope Francis warned against horoscopes
and fortune tellers during his Angelus address to the faithful
in St Peter's Square on Sunday.
"A Christian does not believe in superstitions such as magic,
(fortune-tellers') cards, horoscopes and the such like," he
said.
The pope also bemoaned that "many, many Christians go to get
their palms read", adding "please" in exasperation.
It is not the first time the pope has tackled this issue.
"When you do not grasp the word of the Lord, but consult
horoscopes and card readers to feel more secure, you start to go
down to the bottom," he said at another Angelus address several
years ago.
He also took on witchcraft early this year during a visit to the
Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said there was "addiction to the occult and witchcraft" in
some African societies, warning that "this form of addiction
imprisons us in fear, vengeance and anger."
