God is not cruel, Pope Francis told
Ukrainians in a message delivered during a humanitarian and
peacekeeping mission to the war-torn country on Tuesday.
"God is not cruel, God pampers. It is man who, when he feels
himself to be God, becomes cruel," said the Pope in a message
delivered by Franciscan Father Enzo Fortunato to injured
civilians and children in the western city of Lviv.
"The Pope has asked me to convey to each of you in person his
message and his embrace," said Father Fortunato.
He is part of a mission organised by the Order of Friars Minor
Conventual, Cooperativa Auxilium, the Community of Sant'Egidio
and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to provide aid and
solidarity to the war-stricken Ukrainian population.
Francis also sent rosaries, children's books and Easter
greetings.
