Popular movements are a reality throughout the world, Pope Francis said on Monday, as he underlined their importance for working people.
"These people aren't anarchists," Pope Francis said in response to a question about the World Meeting of Popular Movements in Santa Cruz, where he spoke on Thursday night. "They are for work and against waste." "A world full of popular movements is a reality, a very, very big reality throughout the world," he told journalists on board the papal plane as he returned from Paraguay to Rome.
"What have I done? I have given them the social doctrine of the church, like I do with businessmen." He said the movements were organised not just to protest but "to allow people to move forward, to live, to gain strength." "These people," he said. "And there are lots of them. Don't feel represented by unions, they say that - I'm simplifying here - that unions no longer defend the rights of the people.
"The church cannot stay indifferent to this." http://popefrancisnewsapp.com/
