Italy's world number three Jannik
Sinner overcame some stiff resistance from Australian
Christopher O'Connell in the first set to win 6-4 6-3 on Tuesday
and reach the quarter finals of the Miami Open.
The 22-year-old will face Tomas Machac in the last eight after
the Czech beat Italian Matteo Arnaldi 6-3 6-3.
The other Italian to make the last 16, Lorenzo Musetti, is also
out after losing by the same scoreline to world number two
Carlos Alcaraz.
"We have never faced each other before, but I watch a lot of
tennis and I know what to expect from him," Sinner said in
relation to Machac.
"He is playing excellent tennis and it is not by chance that he
has already beaten Rublev and Arnaldi in this tournament.
"He's solid, he also knows how to manage matches well, including
the wind."
