New Napoli coach Francesco Calzona
takes charge of the team's training for the first time on
Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first leg
clash at home against Barcelona after being brought in to
replace Walter Mazzarri.
Mazzarri was fired on Monday after the Serie A champions' poor
form continued with a 1-1 home draw with Genoa at the weekend.
Calzona, who is also the coach of the Slovakian national team,
is Napoli's third boss of the season.
The club brought back 62-year-old Mazzarri, who was in charge of
them from 2009 until 2013, after sacking Rudi Garcia in November
following a poor start to the campaign.
Garcia had replaced Luciano Spalletti, who moved on to the helm
of the Italian national team after leading Napoli to their first
Serie A title in 33 years last season.
Calzona had stints as assistant coach at Napoli under Spalletti
and Maurizio Sarri.
Calzona has obtained the all-clear from the Slovakian soccer
federation to him to take over Napoli until the end of the
season and stay on at the helm of the national team too, sources
have said.
He has led Slovakia to qualification for Euro 2024.
