Serie A club AS Roma has decried the
"unacceptable attack" on European football represented by the
so-called Super League project that is one step closer to
becoming reality following a ruling by the EU Court of Justice
on Thursday.
"Following today's ruling by the European Court of Justice on
the Super League case, AS Roma reiterates its position in
respect of the values and future of European football," said a
statement on the club's website.
"The club does not support in any way plans for a so-called
Super League, which would represent an unacceptable attack on
the importance of national leagues and the foundations of
European football," added the club, the first in Italy to
officially take a position on the issue.
"AS Roma believes that the future and well being of European
football can only be ensured by clubs working together through
the ECA, in close cooperation and partnership with UEFA and
FIFA," it added.
