Captain Luke Donald completed his team
for the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome at the end of this month by
naming his six wild cards on Monday.
Joining Team Europe for the first edition of the almost
100-year-old event in Italy, at the Marco Simone Golf & Country
Club at Guidonia just north of the Italian capital from
September 29 to October 1, are two Englishmen, Tommy Fleetwood
and Justin Rose, Ireland's Shane Lowry, Dane Nicolai Hojgaard,
Austrian Sepp Straka and Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, a rising star
who has just won the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
They will line up alongside automatic qualifiers Rory McIlroy of
Northern Ireland, Jon Rahm of Spain, Norway's Viktor Hovland,
England's Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick and Scotland's
Robert MacIntyre,
The Italian Molinari brothers, Francesco 'Chicco' and Edoardo
'Edo', have become Italy's first two non-playing vice captains.
2018 Open winner Chicco will be hoping one of more of the team
emulate his exploits in Paris in 2018, when he became the first
player to get six points from as many matches.
