Italy on Thursday night lost a
Nations League semi-final to Spain, the second time they have
been eliminated from the tournament by the Red Furies after
going out to them at the same stage in 2021 when Spain ended the
Azzurri's world record 37-game undefeated run.
Yeremy Pino pounced on a mistake by Leonardo Bonucci to score
Spain's opener in the third minute, before Ciro Immobile
levelled from the penalty spot in the seventh minute after a
soft handball decision.
The sides looked to be going into extra time before Joselu
latched onto a deflected shot to bag the winner in the 88th
minute.
Italy will now play the third-place play-off against the
Netherlands while Spain meet Croatia in the final.
Coach Roberto Mancini said that "Spain deserved the win".
