Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti said on
Saturday he was leaving the team because he "loved and gave
everything".
"Am I hurting myself by leaving Napoli? Yes," said Spalletti on
the eve of the end of the Italian championship that saw the
Naples side win for the third time in its history on May 4 with
five games to spare.
"I'm not leaving because I stopped loving, I'm leaving because I
loved and gave everything," added the coach.
Earlier this week Spalletti said he had told club owner Aurelio
De Laurentiis that he needed to step back for a year because he
is tired and wants to
spend time with his daughter.
De Laurentiis made the announcement last Sunday.
"At the dinner with De Laurentiis, we settled everything in a
quarter of an hour," said Spalletti on Saturday.
"We agreed that he would communicate the choice. I am not
someone who changes his mind easily after making a decision," he
continued.
Then there had been the Napoli Scudetto victory "and it was
right for us to embrace each other", said the coach.
"I don't want there to be friction with President De Laurentiis,
I don't want there to be a division," he concluded.
