UEFA said Friday that its disciplinary commission has opened proceedings against AS Roma coach Josè Mourinho for the verbal abuse he directed at referee Anthony Taylor following his side's defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday.
In a video, Mourinho is shown to have gone on a verbal tirade against the English official in the VIP car park at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, calling him a "f**king disgrace", among other things.
Mourinho told reporters that Taylor's performance in the match, which Roma lost on penalties after regulation and extra time ended 1-1, was a "scandal", saying a series of decisive calls had gone against his team.
In a statement, UEFA said Mourinho had been charged with "insulting/abusive language against a match official".
Both clubs also face proceedings over what happened in the bad-tempered final, with charges for fans throwing objects and the "improper conduct" of the teams, among others.
English Referees' body PGMOL, meanwhile, on Friday condemned the harassment Taylor was subjected to by angry AS Roma fans at Budapest airport.
An online video shows Taylor and his family being insulted and accosted while they were being escorted through the airport.
A scuffle breaks out after they exit the area and a chair is thrown.
"We are appalled at the unjustified and abhorrent abuse directed at Anthony and his family as he tries to make his way home from refereeing the UEFA Europa League final," PGMOL said in a statement.
"We will continue to provide our full support to Anthony and his family." England's Premier League also expressed dismay.
"We are shocked and appalled by the unacceptable abuse directed at Anthony Taylor and his family as they travelled back from the UEFA Europa League Final," it said "No one should have to suffer the inexcusable behaviour they had to endure yesterday.
"Anthony is one of our most experienced and accomplished match officials and we fully support him and his family".
