Italy lost 17-29 to Wales at the
Olimpico Saturday in a game in which they created three or four
more try scoring chances and were on the wrong side of several
key refereeing calls.
The Welsh were leading 22-3 at half time and Italy were
competitive throughout, but squandered several opportunities to
score, especially in the first half.
Wales, who had lost their previous three Six Nations games, have
now leapfrogged the Azxurri at the bottom of the table, with a
bonus point win giving them five points to Italy's one.
A year ago Edoardo Padovani scored a last minute try against
Wales in Cardiff to earn Italy their first win in 36 Six Nations
games, as well as their first away win against Wales and third
away win in the tournament.
But the inspiration for that try, electric full back Ange
Capuozzo, was out injured this time around.
The Azzurri now go to Murrayfield in their last Six Nations game
next Saturday, facing a buoyant Scotland in a long-shot bid to
avoid the wooden spoon.
Earlier in the tournament Italy gave France a big scare, and
tested Ireland too.
