Inter Milan trimmed Napoli's lead at
the top of Serie A to 15 points after a goalless draw with
Sampdoria at Marassi Monday night.
With almost one third of the season to go the Partenopei have 59
points from 22 matches compared to 44 for the Nerazzurri, who
missed a chance to close to within 13 after a toothless display
in Genoa.
Napoli had provisionally opened up a 16 point gap over second
placed Inter by beating basement side Cremonese by 3-0 at the
Maradona ahead of Inter's trip to Sampdoria Monday night.
Goals by Georgian dribbling sensation Khvicha 'Kvaradona'
Kvaratskhelia, Nigeria centre forward Victor Osimhen and
Macoednia midfielder Elif Elmas saw the Partenopei safely home
against the Cremona side despite them not showing their usual
flowing attacking brilliance.
It was Osimhen's eight goal in six games and 18th in all in
Serie A this season.
Atalanta went third, on 41 points, after beating Lazio 2-0 at
the Olimpico thanks to a wonder goal from Italy defender Davide
Zappacosta and a tap-in from 20-year-old Denmark striker Rasmus
Hojlund.
Roma are fourth and AC Milan fifth, both also on 41 points, the
same as Atalanta, but with worse goal differences.
Lazio is sixth on 39, nine points head of Torino and Udinese in
joint seventh and eight and ten clear of Juventus, who beat
Fiorentina 1-0 at the Allianz Stadium with a goal from France
midfielder Fabien Rabiot to stand on 29 points following their
15-point deduction for for allegedly inflating earnings from
transfer dealings in their balance sheets.
