The magical left foot of late
footballing genius Diego Maradona has been sculpted in Naples.
The sculpture is in the Scampia district of the southern Italian
city where Maradona, voted the best player ever along with
Brazilian rival Pelé, led the once-unsung team to two scudetti
and a UEFA Cup between 1984 and 1990.
Napoli Chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has had a limited edition
copy made.
The work is by local sculptor Stefano Ceci.
In all there are three life-size statues of Maradona in the city
he took to soccer greatness.
The foot has been exhibited shortly after the shirt worn by
Maradona for his Hand of God and goal of the century goals
against England in the 1986 World Cup was sold for a record fee
at auction.
