Parma rugby team Zebre are stuck in a
South African hotel due to COVID-19, sources said Friday.
The team, which plays in the United Rugby Championship featuring
South African, Welsh, Irish and Scottish clubs, is waiting to be
given the OK to come back to Italy from Cape Town amid a
worsening virus situation in the African country.
Zebre left Parma for South Africa Wednesday for a two-week
mini-tournament.
They were scheduled to play the Stormers in Cape Town on
Saturday and the Sharks in Durban on December 3.
The matches have been called off as a new COVID variant spreads
across the country, spurring alarm.
Zebre staff are trying to find out whether the team will have to
quarantine and where, South Africa, Italy, or both.
