Silvio Berlusconi's holding
company Fininvest and the Sino-Europe Sports (SES) group on
Wednesday reached a deal to put up till March 3 the closing
deadline for the sale of AC Milan to the new Chinese partners, a
statement from the two groups said. An SES-led consortium will
make another downpayment of 100 million euros to Fininvest by
December 12, the groups said. Long-time owner Berlusconi, the
media mogul and three-time Italian premier, recently said AC
Milan was "already sold" and there was "no problem" putting off
its initially scheduled December 13 closing to give its Chinese
buyers time to get the necessary authorisation for moving
capital abroad. Berlusconi, who recently turned 80, has said he
may stay on as honorary president after the sale. The ex-premier
has said selling Milan, which he led to domestic and European
glory, had been a "painful decision" to make and "now soccer is
like Monopoly, where millions count for nothing".
