AS Roma said Thursday that
Italy midfielder Alessandro Florenzi will have surgery after
rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in his
side's 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old, who can also play full back, is set for
a long spell on the sidelines and his loss is a big blow to
title-chasing Roma.
"I went through it too and I know what it means to have a
serious injury," said Roma captain Francesco Totti on his
Facebook page.
"I gave you my best wishes in private, but I wanted to
show you my support and that of the whole team here too.
"Come on Ale, we expect you to come back even faster than
before".
Florenzi is set to go under the knife on Friday.
"Thanks to everyone for the support. You are all special
and with the help of my wife, my daughter, my family and
friends, these days will pass like a run down the wing,"
Florenzi said via Twitter.
Second-placed Roma remain two points behind leaders
Juventus after Wednesday's win.
