Rome's bid to host the 2024
Olympics has recruited Italian cinema heavyweights Roberto
Benigni, Monica Bellucci and Paolo Sorrentino to be ambassadors
as well as fashion icon Giorgio Armani, Oscar-winning composer
Ennio Morricone, conductor Riccardo Muti and singers Andrea
Bocelli and Laura Pausini, the bid committee said Thursday.
Top business figures Andrea Agnelli, Nerio Alessandri,
Alberica Antinori, Guido Barilla, Alessandro Benetton, Giovanni
Ferrero and Marco Tronchetti are also on board, it said.
"Italian excellence takes to the field alongside Roma
2024," a statement said.
There are doubts about the bid as Rome's new Mayor
Virginia Raggi said before being elected last month that she was
against the capital hosting the Games.
She has since confirmed they are not a priority, while
saying a final decision will be made later in the year.
