Spain's Alberto Contador increased
his lead over Italy's David Aru by outpacing him by 11 seconds
in Thursday's 12th stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Bologna to
Vicenza.
After a hilly trip that saw Aru sometimes struggle,
Contador, who continued in the race after a heavy fall a few
days ago threatened his bid, is now 17 seconds ahead.
"It was a positive day, marked by a fast finish: the rain
made the descent more difficult, but it all went well," said the
the 2008 Giro champion and twice Tour de France winner,
"I'm getting better every day and feel more and more
confident".
