The number of smokers in Italy is
back on the rise after years of decline with a gain of 800,000
over 2019, the Higher Health Institute (ISS) said in a report
for the May 31 World No Tobacco Day Monday.
It is the first significant increase since 2006 and regards both
exes, the ISS said in its report.
The number of consumers of heated tobacco has tripled.
Almost one in four Italians, 24.2%, is a smoker, the highest
percentage since 2006.
In 2019, the last pre-pandemic year of reporting, the percentage
was 22%.
