Veneto can boast eight Unesco World Heritage Sites after the recent inscription of the
Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, an opportunity that regional authorities plan to use to attract more tourists.
Italy's top region for tourism, with 70 million visitors and 20 million arrivals, will further boost and differentiate its offer, local authorities said at the Buy Veneto workshop in Mestre on Monday.
Veneto Governor Luca Zaia has announced a plan to increasingly invest on these destinations.
"The idea is to think about Unesco sites almost as a destination in itself", Zaia said opening the international event.
"We are already working on this, thinking in perspective about a unified offer". "We must not forget in fact that, in order to join forces, it is necessary for Veneto not only to present itself with the sites but with as many management plans", said the governor, explaining that a location is not listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site "for life but needs to prove the ability to manage these territories".
"And those who have just entered also must take this need into account", noted Zaia.
Tourism Councilor Federico Caner also spoke about the idea of a joint offer.
He said that he has promised authorities in charge of Unesco World Heritage sites in Veneto that they will all be promoted as tourist destinations.
"Those who manage the other sites have manifested concern over the massive promotional campaign that the region has organized for the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and
Valdobbiadene", he said. "I have reassured them that, little by little, we have planned international promotional campaigns for all our Unesco sites", the councilor noted, saying the ads will be published on the press, broadcast on radio and television and posted on social media.
"We will give space to everyone to give the utmost value to these opportunities that ontribute to make Veneto attractive", he concluded.
