European Economy Commissioner Paolo
Gentiloni on Tuesday stressed the the deadline for the
completion of member States' National Recovery and Resilience
Plans (NRRP) for the NextGenerationEU programme remains 2026,
amid reports Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti wants
it to be put back.
"Timely implementation of the NRRP is essential because the 2026
deadline is fixed," Gentiloni said at an event on EU's
post-COVID Recovery Plan in Brussels.
"It is essential that the Member States maintain the momentum
and accelerate where necessary.
"The Member States tell us that the implementation of the NRRPs
is putting a strain on their administrative capacity.
"Many would appreciate simpler and more flexible implementation.
"We are looking for ways to address these challenges without
undoing the legal framework
"We also know that stakeholders would like to be more involved
in the implementation of the plans.
"I would urge countries to keep this in mind when drawing up
their budget plans in the second half of the year".
