Centre-left candidate Alessandra
Todde was officially proclaimed the first woman governor of
Sardinia Monday after the populist leftist 5-Star Movement (M5S)
candidate won last month's elections on the island.
on February 26 Todde, got 3,061 more votes than centre-right
candidate Paolo Truzzu, the Cagliari court of appeal announced.
Todde is the former vice president of the M5S and former deputy
industry minister under ex-premier Mario Draghi.
The 55-year-old Nuoro-born engineer was the candidate for the
so-called 'broad field' alliance between the M5S and the
centre-left Democratic Party (PD).
Truzzu, 51, is a leading member of Premier Giorgia Meloni's
rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party and mayor of Cagliari.
