Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti
said Friday that he almost regrets having worked to bring about
the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
"The Olympics don't come every two years, they are coming in
2026 and then they won't come back any more," he told the
assembly of the Chamber of Commerce of Sondrio.
"I'm beginning to regret having done it (promoting the bid,
ed.), because I feel the responsibility of it and several years
have passed between 2018 (when the bid was shortlisted) and
2024."
He suggested mounting "a nice electronic billboard" on the way
into Lombardy's Valtellina valley with the countdown of how many
days are left to the event in order to raise awareness of "the
sense of urgency needed".
