Reports by two Italian newspapers that
Justice Undersecretary Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove put
pressure on the Italian penitentiary department DAP to get
information about a prison visit by centre-left Democratic Party
(PD) MPs to jailed anarchist leader Alfredo Cospito, information
which was later revealed in parliament by Delmastro's flatmate
and fellow rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) MP Giovani
Donzelli, mean that Delmastro must resign, according to the
House whip of the leftwing populist 5-Star Movement (M5S),
Francesco Silvestri, speaking to ANSA Friday.
Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica on Friday reported that
Delmastro exerted pressure on the DAP in order to get the
potentially damaging information on the PD visit to Cospito,
which also included a chance meeting with Mafia bosses.
"The new revelations that have emerged in the press about
Delmastro's alleged pressure to obtain the secret information
used by Donzelli confirm his serious responsibilities and call
for his resignation," Silvestri told ANSA.
"I wonder how (FdI leader and Premier Giorgia) Meloni can accept
this beahvious.
"Among the first duties of a Prime Minister is to protect the
institutions, but since I have been in government, between her
and her majority leaders, only fingers in the eyes have come to
the pillars of our democracy"..
