Italy's public debt is set to rise
and Premier Giorgia Meloni and her government's 2024 budget are
to blame, 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Giuseppe Conte said after
a meeting with Carlo Bonomi, the president of Italian industry
association Confindustria.
"We agree with Confindustria that there is not a euro for
investment in this budget," said ex-premier Conte.
"I think this has never happened before.
"Meloni will be the premier responsible for an increase in
public debt.
"If the GDP does not grow, the public debt increases (in
proportion to it) and she will not be able to respect the debt
curve they have forecast.
"This is because that curve is built on a forecast GDP increase
of 1.2% next year that no agency, institute or accredited body
can go along with".
