An Italian anti-gay general who was
sacked as head of the military geographical institute after
self-publishing a book called The World Back To Front slamming
gays, lesbians, migrants, Jews and feminists will get another
post in the army, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said on
Italian TV Sunday.
Ex paratroop regiment head Roberto Vannacci became a hero
in rightwing circles and was offered candidacies in far right
and rightwing groups including the ruling League party but said
he wanted to continue his military career, at least for the
moment.
Crosetto, who started the disciplinary proceedings that ended in
Vannacci's replacement as head of the institute, said on the
sidelines of his appearance on stage during the 'Fatto del
Fatto' party: "I told General Vannacci that I will apply the
rules and give all the guarantees and protections that are
needed as I would with anyone.
"He can write the book and present it, that is not the subject.
"We will see in the coming months and weeks what will be the
employment of Vannacci, who has not been kicked out of the Armed
Forces and like any executive must have a job.
"His Armed Force will propose him an alternative employment".
He added: "As to whether he will be operational, that is not up
to me but to the Armed Force and the dialogue that will take
place between them".
