Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on
Friday received a paratroop general who caused a storm by
slamming gays, lesbians, migrants, Jews and feminists in a book
called The World Back To Front, which has earned him a hero's
status in rightwing circles but prompted the minister to open
disciplinary proceedings that ended in his replacement as head
of the military geographical institute.
Defence sources said Crosetto received General Roberto Vannacci
for reasons "of a private nature".
Vannacci asked to meet the minister a few days ago.
The rightwing League party has invited the officer to stand for
them, but he has declined saying he is a soldier.
