Centre-left opposition Democratic
Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein said in Paris Tuesday that it was
"unacceptable" that Italy ranked only 16th in the 27-nation
European Union for healthcare spending and provision.
She said on a visit to the French capital that the Italian
government was cutting more health services and this was "not
acceptable".
"And this must be seen in light of the GIMBE (health foundation)
figures from today that put our country in 16th place in Europe
and last in the G7 for per capita investments in the public
health service.
"We, on the other hand, think that Italian women and Italian men
deserve the right to see realized the right to health envisaged
by the Constitution".
