Premier Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of
Italy (FdI) party on Saturday called for a parliamentary probe
into an alleged mismanagement of the 'citizen ship wage' (RdC)
basic income benefit and poverty aid by the former president of
the INPS social security and pensions agency, Pasquale Tridico.
'The citizenship income, over time, has turned out to be a
welfarist measure, born with a demagogic purpose, written badly,
implemented worse, which has resulted in enormous damage to the
treasury," said FdI House Whip Tommaso Foti, announcing the
move.
"The (FdI) parliamentary group considers it increasingly
necessary to set up a parliamentary committee of enquiry,
limiting the responsibility to Tridico for consciously not
having activated the controls, in order not to lose electoral
and personal consensus for his political masters".
Tridico was INPS chair from March 2019 to last May 4.
