The government is to propose to the
European Commission omitting nine measures worth 15.9 billion
euros from Italy's EU-funded post-Covid National Recovery and
Resilience Plan (NRRP) and funding them through other sources,
European Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto said on Thursday.
The measures "will be safeguarded through coverage by other
sources of funding, such as the national plan that is
complementary to the NRRP and cohesion policy funds," Fitto told
reporters after the meeting of the NRRP steering committee.
The measures include interventions to enhance the territory and
improve the energy efficiency of municipalities, to a value of 6
billion euros, urban renewal projects to a value of 3.3 billion
euros, integrated urban plans to a value of 2.5 billion euros,
and flood and hydrogeological risk management to a value of
1.287 billion euros.
"For some interventions, significant critical issues have
emerged that do not allow confirmation of funding under the
plan," read a summary of the amended plan released by the
European affairs ministry after the meeting.
"In this context, the government is taking the necessary
measures to reprogramme resources in favour of interventions
that are coherent and feasible within the planned timeframe,
while ensuring the full funding of the interventions removed
from the NRRP," continued the summary.
Instead, Fitto said that the proposed additional RepowerEU
chapter of the plan containing measures to promote the use of
clean energy, energy efficiency and diversification includes "a
total of 19 billion euros worth of planned interventions
benefitting economic growth, employment and all the main
strategic sectors".
The interventions, he added, have "been selected on the basis of
the RepowerEu criteria, both in terms of achieving the energy
objectives and meeting the deadline for implementation by 2026".
The Repower, said Raffaele Fitto, includes three areas of
investments (networks, efficiency and production plants) and six
reforms.
