Tunisian President Kais Saied praised
Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni for her quality of speaking her
mind as he welcomed her to the presidential palace for talks
during her visit to the North African country on Tuesday.
"I'm very happy to speak to you about our problems," Saied said.
"I say it out loud. Today you are a woman who says out loud what
others think in silence".
Meloni replied that "I am very happy to be here" as she shook
Saied's hand.
The leaders had a meeting that lasted one hour and 45 minutes.
Tunisia is in the midst of a major financial crisis and the
unstable situation in the North African country has been a major
factor in a huge increase in the number of migrants coming to
Italy from across the Mediterranean this year. Meloni reportedly
hopes the visit can lead to a breakthrough in stalled talks
between Tunis and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a
1.9.billion-dollar loan to ease the crisis.
