President Sergio Mattarella called on
Italy's prefects to do what they can to help society's
vulnerable in a message to them for the June 2 Republic Day
national holiday.
"Being close to the most fragile segments of the population, to
situations of marginality, with special attention to degradation
and situations of social distress, is something that the
prefect's departments are called on to address, in order to have
positive effects on social cohesion and community security" the
message read.
