Some 43% of Italians believe
reforming existing relocation agreements at European level for
refugees and migrants arriving in the European Union is the most
effective way to tackle migration flows, according to the
results of an opinion poll published on Monday.
Instead some 22% support preventing migrant boats from departing
and 20% are in favour of extending legal pathways for admission
to Italy, according to the survey conducted by Quorum/YouTrend
for Sky TG24.
29% of respondents correctly identified the number of refugees
and migrants who arrived in Italy by sea in 2022 (just over
105,000), with 38% underestimating the figure and 13%
overestimating it.
Similarly, 22% of people surveyed correctly identified the size
of the legally resident foreign population in Italy as a
percentage of the total population, which stands at just under
9%. 36% of respondents underestimated it and 23% overestimated
it.
The percentages varied significantly according to respondents'
political party affiliation.
