Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi
again wasted an opportunity to explain why the tax police and
not the coast guard intervened ahead of the February 26 migrant
boat disaster that killed at least 72 off Calabria, centre-left
opposition Democratic party (PD) leader Elly Schlein said after
the minister reported to parliament on the incident Tuesday.
"Today, also, a wasted opportunity to answer precise questions:
who decided that the tax police should intervene instead of the
coast guard," said Schlein, elected PD head nine days ago.
"Today Piantedosi did not answer the question: who decided that
the coast guard should not intervene?", she reiterated.
