The government will intervene if
petrol prices go back above two euros a a litre, Deputy Premier
and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini said on
Wednesday.
Fuel prices have risen significantly since the government ended
a reduction in duties at the turn of the year.
"If the price goes up again like it did last summer, above two
euros, we will intervene," Salvini told Rtl 102.5 radio.
"The choice was whether to keep the reduction in duties or
intervene regarding utility bills and salaries.
"(So far) we have chosen the second option, helping to boost
salaries up to 25,000 euros".
