The European Union is a condominium
where neighbours live together and where members like Italy must
stand up for themselves, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in
Florence Monday.
"Europe is a condominium, we all live together, each of us may
have different interests, but we must assert ourselves, we
cannot say that the others do not want us," said Tajani at an
event in the Tuscan capital.
"I must say that today Italians often fight side by side, even
at a European level, common battles to protect a national
interest in a European context," Tajani said.
"Protecting national interests in Europe does not mean going
against Europe.
"Europe must make the synthesis of different interests, and a
Europe that sees Italy as a protagonist means a richer Italy."
