Nicola Zingaretti said Wednesday he
will step down as Lazio governor in 3 weeks after being elected
to the Lower House for the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) in
the September 25 general election.
He said he would quit as soon as the regional budget was passed.
A new regional election could be staged between December 18 and
the end of January, he added.
Zingaretti is a former leader of the PD.
