The Senate on Tuesday gave the
definitive green light to the government's second package of aid
to help families and firms cope with soaring fuel and energy
prices.
The package, worth 17 billion euros, is on top of 35 billion
euros already allocated this year to soften the blow of the
cost-of-living crisis.
It was approved with 178 votes in favour, none against and 13
abstentions.
Outgoing Premier Mario Draghi's cabinet on Friday approved a
third package of aid, worth around 14 billion euros.
The third package includes a one-off payment of 150 euros for
people earning less than 20,000 euros a year.
Draghi told a news conference that 22 million people would
benefit.
