An image of Premier Mario Draghi on a
leash held by United States President Joe Biden in reference to
Italy allegedly slavishly following the US's lead over Ukraine
is "unacceptable", Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said after a
member of his 5-Star Movement (M5S) party re-posted it on
Instagram Wednesday.
"That image is unacceptable, I totally distance myself from it,
we as a political force support the government, we support the
premier," said Di Maio, a former M5S leader.
M5S leader and ex-premier Giuseppe Conte has been highly
critical of the government's policy of sending arms to Kyiv in
line with other NATO members led by the US.
Di Maio added: "That is not the right to criticise, that is
something to distance yourself from, I hope the (M5S) distances
itself as soon as possible".
