The Ukraine war makes the enlargement
of the European Union into the Balkans more urgent than ever,
Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio told Croatian counterpart Gordan
Grlic-Radman at the foreign ministry in Rome Tuesday.
"We agreed with Minister Grlic-Radman on the need to relaunch
the process of enlargement of the European Union to the Western
Balkans," he said.
"This priority is made even more urgent by the conflict in
Ukraine.
"It is essential to make this prospect concrete, for the very
credibility of the European Union.
"Integration represents the principal way towards the definitive
stabilization of this region, which is strategic for our
countries".
