Students in Palermo on Friday are
protesting against the suspension of a high school teacher
accused of failing to oversee the activity of a group of
students who compared the government's migrant and security
decree to the Fascist racial laws.
The students are planning to stage a protest at 4 pm local
time in front of the prefect's office in the Sicilian city to
ask for the "immediate suspension" of the controversial measure
against Professor Rosa Maria Dell'Aria, which has been
criticized by teachers and Palermo Mayor Leoluca Orlando.
Former Senate speaker, Pietro Grasso, the leader of the
left-wing Free and Equal (LeU) party, published the students'
video on Facebook.
In a Facebook post, Grasso wrote: "Past and present measures
and choices are linked with shrewdness and intelligence - maybe
the intelligence is scaring (Matteo) Salvini, he said, referring
to the deputy premier, interior minister and leader of the
anti-immigrant Euroskeptic League party who drafted the
government's decree.
